He Gave The Kid A Surprise
Valenti asked the front desk how much time the kid would get if he paid $150 out of pocket for him to get a membership. They said it would get him about three months, so Valenti paid the amount that day.
X-Sport Head Office Caught Wind Of The Deed
Operations Manager, Justin Pritchett, said he was so moved by the interaction between the cop and the kid that he told his head office. X-Sport admins were also taken with what the officer was doing that they fronted another $718 so that the kid could extend his membership another two years.
He Was Pretty Good Too
What makes this story even crazier is that they found out the boy who attends a Chicago school was an NBA hopeful. He’s a very skilled player who had received national attention for his on-court accomplishments.
Feel Good Story
Valenti said that it’s weird for him to reach into his own pockets in cases, but that it’s really not as uncommon as you might think. He says that many of the good police officers he knows do it fairly regularly, but it never gets reported on.
